Halo: Combat Evolved
Here we go. I’m sure most people who are going to scroll through this blog, know what Halo is. Or at the very least, know someone who quite literally turned their life into a mess just for the sweet fun time that IS Halo. The mission I’m talking about is from the first game Halo: Combat Evolved.
Halo: Combat Evolved is a 2001 FPS game developed by Bungie. Yes, THAT Bungie. The main Protagonist is Master Chief, also known as John-117. The story of Halo 1 follows Chief and the Crew of the Pillar of Autumn, who are fleeing from the Fall of Reach, stumble onto Forerunner Installation 04. Who then stumble across the Covenant and the Flood and you have to fight to escape from by the games end.
The game level we’re talking about for this is called The Maw. The Maw is the last level in Halo. You have to detonate some fusion reactors in the Pillar of Autumn to blow apart Installation 04, destroying the Covenant and the Flood. Once you’re through that the game launches into an epic escape section. The first time playing through this, and the tenseness you feel when you hit walls, or mess up a jump are second to none. You want Chief to make it. YOU want to make it. You’ve become chief and this whole section just clicks. This stretch of section truly was a great gaming moment for me and influenced my love for first-person shooters.
This is my first of a series of articles that will be titled Great Moment in Gaming. Listed below are some things I have in the pipeline.
- Ocarina of Time
- Devil May Cry 3
