The game developer Daedalic announced yesterday that they are in development of a new Lord of the Rings game. In fact, the official working title is “Lord of the Rings: Gollum.
Gollum’s tale will be based on the books and will follow his behind the scenes travels pursuing the fellowship. It will also follow his descent into madness, after acquiring the One Ring, and before he meets the Baggins’. According to Daedalic, they will incorporate a choice system. Smeagol and Gollum choices effectively. It could lead to some very interesting scenarios if executed correctly.
As there is a battle over movie rights and book rights. We won’t be seeing any of Peter Jackson’s famous landmarks in the game. This also means we won’t be getting the on-screen characterization by Andy Serkis.
Carsten Fichtelmann, CEO and co-founder of Daedalic, said the new game will “tell Gollum’s story from a perspective never seen before, in any storytelling medium, all the while staying true to the legendary books of J.R.R. Tolkien.”
There aren’t very man details about the game, however as the game is based on the book, we probably can make some pretty good assumptions. There will be lots of surprises in the pipeline I’m sure. I’m excited to see how it pans out. The game is slated for a 2021 release on PC and consoles.
Let me know in the comments down below how you’ll be playing Gollum! Will you be slinking in the shadows eating fish? Or will you be stabbing dudes with pointy rocks while mumbling about “The Precious”?
